lildoc447 Store RARE- ALL NEGRO W.W.II ARMY AIR CORPS, HARDCOVER BOOK You are bidding on a RARE original hardbound W.W. II, U.S. military issued book showing NEGRO aviators and staff at Godman Field, Fort Knox, Kentucky. There is a printed copy of a letter from the base commanding officer, Colonel B.O. Davis dated 27 September 1945 and the year 1945 is embosseed on the front cover. B.O. Davis is famous from his time as an officer of the Tuskeegee Airmen and for being the first Black general. The units of the 1st Airforce at Godman Field included the 99th Fighter Squadron, the 618th Bombardment Squadron, the 617th Bombardment Squadron and the 477th Composite Group along with support, etc. The book is set up like a yearbook and illustrates the various departments and activities on the base and has photos of the all Negro officers, pilots, bombardiers, support people and staff. The book in very good condition with the only flaws being wear on the corners and the bottom end of the spine. The gold print is a little faded on the cover and a few areas of the front and back covers are no longer smooth. The pages are all in very good shape with no creases, tears or staining. There is some writing on the front flypage " Property of Finley B. Pinkard, 617 Bombardment Sq (M), 447 Bombardment Group, and a few of the individuals pictures are outlined, otherwise the pages are clean. The book is 12" by 9" with 38 pages and is in great shape for almost 65 years old. This a real piece of Black History. See my ratings, my other auctions bid with confidence and GOOD LUCK!
