RPPC G.A.R.BLACK AMERICANA in 1914 DETROIT PARADE Click to View Image Album Click to View Image Album G.A.R. BLACK AMERICANA RPPC. BLACKS in special UNIFORMS march in DETROIT PARADE,1914. THIS IS A R-A-R-E postcard!!! According to an article that came when I acquired this postcard recently at an Estate.---in 1897, 4 MEMBERS of The Detroit POST of the GAR met to 'discuss starting a NEW POST' of the GAR since the current membership were RACIALLY BIASED and didnt want Blacks or others not friendly to the Club. A new DETROIT G.A.R. Post was founded that had it's own 'distinctive uniforms' that were different than the standard GAR uniform. The new members wore Prince Albert coats with black trousers; standing collars, and white bow ties and a Grand Army hat with double GOLD cord, buff gloves, and carried black canes. They were renowned for their precision drill exhibitions. This RPPC shows them marching in the 1914 PARADE. Again, since this is a RARE postcard, it cannot be returned as I dont want it handled. The back has a NOKO stampbox. The postcard is VINTAGE and in VG+/EX condition. This card is NOT A REPRODUCTION, it is the original. Good luck and thanks for bidding in my auction. Sally S. I try to describe items as accurately as possible. If buyer finds that my description was inaccurate, item may be returned within 3 days after receiving delivery, but there will be no partial refunds, (no exceptions). Although the buyer pays the shipping cost, I pay all insurance costs myself. For sale is an extremely unusual and rare Black Americana porcelain shaving mug depicting two adult black males holding straight razors. As you can see, one seems to be forcibly trying to shave the other. The caption reads âA Close Shaveâ. Interestingly, the mug appears to have been made in Germany by the KPM Porcelain company. Itâs possible that the mug was imported to the US as a blank, and was given this artwork after arriving in the States. The mug itself and the artwork are both in excellent condition and I believe this piece was made in the 1920âs or 30âs. The mug measures 3 7/8â tall by 4 ¾â wide including handle, and 3 5/8â wide in diameter at the top rim. Iâm sorry that I donât know the particulars about this mug and why it was produced, but if anyone out there knows anything I would appreciate your feedback. I will be starting the bidding at only $49.00 with no reserve. Please check my feedback as I have received many positive comments on my packing, mailing, and quick response. All of my delicate items are double boxed in heavy duty corrugated boxes. To date I have never had a single item broken or lost in shipping, and I will only charge you, the buyer, the actual cost to ship the item.
