pcxgaragesale store RPPC 101 Ranch Show Cowboy Stars Ballard Photo For the next few weeks I will be selling postcards that came from a collection I bought in Oklahoma that were once owned by George Washington "Buck" Conner, who also spelled his last name Conner or Conners. This is a RPPC of the cowbow stars of the 101 Ranch Show. SXPC stamp box with "Ballard" as photographer. Great image From a collection I bought in Oklahoma that were once owned by George Washington "Buck" Conner, who also spelled his last name Conner or Conners. After Buck served in the Spanish American War, he joined the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show and became a manager for Indians in the show. He was a very close friend of Buffalo Bill, and Cody called him "one of the old guard" after Buck left. An early motion picture company sent Buck to the Mexican border to take movies during the Mexican Border War. Soon, afterward, Buck joined the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show. From 1913 in silent movies until the 1940s he was considered a B-Western movie star. See for reference: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0175413/ http://buckconnor.com/

pcxgaragesale Store RPPC W.E. HAWKES cowboy Charles Russell orig pictures For the next few weeks I will be selling postcards that came from a collection I bought in Oklahoma that were once owned by George Washington "Buck" Conner, who also spelled his last name Conner or Conners. This is as good as it gets. W.E. Hawkes writes to George "Buck" Connor with a picture of himself sitting in his western themed room at home in Vermont which he calls the "=70 Tepee" (=70 was his Idaho ranch brand) . Signed by Hawkes and mentioning all the Russel paintings / pictures on the wall. This postcard sold for about $400 at an auction several years ago, but it was NOT signed or noted by Hawkes himself. An incredible image. This card was written to Buck from Mr. W.E. Hawkes, Jr. The self-described “Historian of the Plains,” William E. Hawks was of that generation of easterner who traveled west and found his manhood. A graduate of Yale, Hawks spent time in the 1890s on a ranch near the Snake River, Idaho, but returned east to settle in Bennington, Vt., where he remained for the final thirty years of his life. He did not, however; leave the west completely behind. For years, he wrote authentic western stories for Cowboy Stories and he corresponded with authentic western types to capture their recollections of life in the west when the west was wild. Hawkes ranch and brand was know as the "=70" and can be seen on some of his self-made cards and actual animal brands. The best information I could find about W.E. Hawkes is located at: http://www.cowansauctions.com/auctions/item.aspx?ItemId=64829 From a collection I bought in Oklahoma that were once owned by George Washington "Buck" Conner, who also spelled his last name Conner or Conners. I personally crafted this display in March 2011. It Depicts a rusted metal/raised lettering replica of Sheriff Pat Garretts Door Sign at the Old Lincoln County Sheriffs Office, it also displays a tin replica of the Lincoln Co Badge. The $ 500.00 Reward parched paper shown (3D Raised and aged edges) in the center of the display is an exact duplication of the one issued by then NM Governor Lew Wallace and sent back by the Lincoln County Sheriff after shooting Billy The Kid. At the bottom right corner you can observe where Patt Garrett wrote "Governor, The Deed Is Done" Signed Pat Garrett. This Display has a personal connection for me as I am a resident of New Mexico and was inspired after visiting Lincoln County Court House, Fort Sumner and many of the places where Billy The Kid Traveled, including the burial sight of this famous outlaw. This is a one of a kind piece and I will never attempt to duplicate nor even make another of such catagory as to preserve its unique display-design. The frame was acquired from a farmers market sales and is old unto itself. I would love to know it is being displayed in a nice office, personal study or anywhere in which it may be seen and discussed by those who look upon it. It is a very nice collectable item that speaks to the old western outlaw history with a classy touch. I am confident you will agree when you see it hanging on your wall or the person to who you gift it. Billy the Kid was one of the most notorious outlaws of the American West. According to legend, he killed at least 21 men, one for every year of his young life, before he was gunned down in the Chihuahuan Desert by New Mexico Sheriff Pat Garrett. While fact and myth are often difficult to separate, it seems Billy the Kid earned his reputation as one of the the Desert Southwest's most prolific killers. History records that in a period of just 4 years, he fought in at least 16 shootouts, killed at least 4 men himself, and assisted in the murder of at least 5 others. Billy's Untimely End On July 14, Pat Garrett, together with two deputies, sat in a darkened bedroom at the Fort Sumner ranch home of Billy's friend, Pete Maxwell. Garrett was asking Maxwell about Billy's whereabouts when Billy, in his stocking feet, unexpectedly entered Maxwell's quarters, spotting, but not recognizing Garrett in the dim light. "Quien es? Quien es?" -- "Who is it? Who is it?" were the last words Billy ever uttered. Garrett pumped two shots from his revolver, one of which went straight into Billy's heart. Billy the Kid was buried the next day at Fort Sumner cemetery between his two outlaw pals, Tom O'Folliard and Charlie Bowdre, where his grave can be seen to this day. Although he didn't live to celebrate his 22nd birthday, Billy the Kid remains one of the notorious legends of the AmericanWest.

This is a lot of 57 + antique postcards by Doubleday of rodeos in Montana, Wyoming, Texas, Nebraska, Colorado ect. in the early 1900's. I have tried to show the variety of the cards. Postcards of early cowgirls! Love it. It seems that someone ripped them out of a scrap album but all 57 are in good condition with no tears or rips. I will also send 4-5 more that have rips or tears. The back of the postcards are shown as well to give you an idea of what they look like. Some are better than others of course. I have shown the worse. Really cool to look at. Great photography. Please ask any questions before you bid and make sure you look closely at the pictures as this is the set you will receive. Sold as is. Please be sure to check out my other auctions, I will combine shipping. Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail. No international bidders please. snakebiteharley store
