yester*year Store yester*year WWI Embroidered Silk Postcard ~ Made in France ~ c1914-1918 ' target=_blank> ' target=_blank> Description On offer is a touching and sentimental embroidered silk card from the First World War and made in France. This would make a great display piece or addition to your postcard or militaria collection. It would also make a great gift and a conversation piece of a small and nearly forgotten slice of social and world history. All cards are posted in a protective plastic sleeve and with a cardboard stiffener. yester*year offers FREE postage on postcards whilst still taking the utmost care to ensure that you receive your purchase safely. Please carefully read details below for measurements, materials, condition, origin and age etc. Measurements: 14cm x 9cm Material: Card and silk Condition: The card is in good condition apart from some foxing and discolouration due to age. Origin: France Age: c1914 - 1918 Interesting Facts & Trivia: The Australian War Memorial has a collection of approximately 500 woven, printed and embroidered silk postcards from the First World War. The majority are embroidered postcards. Woven silk postcards were first produced in Krefeld, Germany in 1898 as a combination of printed postcards and large woven silk pictures, known as Stevengraphs. The early cards were woven on machines which maintained a high standard. Embroidered silk postcards were first made in 1900 for the Paris Exposition. The popularity of silk postcards peaked during the First World War. A thriving cottage industry began around 1915 and the quality of the early silks was quite high. Postcard companies began to employ women to produce silks on a rough assembly line basis. The cards were generally hand embroidered on strips of silk mesh with as many as 25 on a strip. They were mostly embroidered by French women in their homes and then sent to the factories for cutting and mounting on postcards. Some postcards were made with little envelopes which could contain a smaller card with a sentimental message. Production continued steadily through World War I, but declined substantially in 1919, until ending around 1923. An estimated 10 million hand made cards were produced from 1915 to 1919. Be sure to add yester*year to your favourites list! yester*year Payment Contact is to be made with yester*year within 2 days of auction close, otherwise the item will be re-listed. Payment is to be made within 5 days after close of auction unless previously arranged with yester*year. Vintage WWII Era 1940s Real Photo EKC Postcard U.S.S. Astoria CA-34, New Orleans-class Heavy Cruiser. This unused postcard measures 5-3/8" by 3-1/2" This piece is in nice vintage display condition, with typical minor edgewear, and a very small stain mark on the front (less then the size of a pencil eraser tip.) The back of the postcard has some very very light marks, which look to be from the black background paper of the photo album it was in. The photos are scans of the actual postcard the buyer will receive. It is marked on the front in white "U.S.S. Astoria Geo. Winstead 3." This postcard was in the WWII souvenir book of a veteran, and was brought back by him. Shipping: Is always actual USPS cost or less to the buyer. I do not charge handling fees. I am happy to combine shipping for multiple auctions whenever possible (based on the items you are interested in purchasing and if they can fit in the same box and can be safely packaged together.) Combined shipping cost to the buyer is the actual USPS cost to ship the one box with the multiple purchases enclosed in it. Please contact me with your zipcode and items of interest if you would like a combined shipping quote. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS PLEASE NOTE: International purchases to be paid by PayPal only please. Import duties, taxes and charges are not included in the item price or shipping charges. These charges are the buyer’s responsibility. Please check with your country’s customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to bidding/buying. These charges are normally collected by the delivering freight (shipping) company or when you pick the item up. I do not mark merchandise values below value or mark items as "gifts" - US and International Government Regulations prohibit such behavior. All Buyers: My listing pieces come from various sources, including Estate Sales, Auctions, Yard Sales, Etc...Although my home is non-smoking, I usually have no way of knowing if items came from homes that smoked or had pets, but if any odor is ever noticed, it will be described in the listing. Additionally if I know for a fact an item came from a smoking home, it will be noted in the description. I have pets, but my Ebay stock is stored in a room the pets are not allowed in. Lastly, I try to describe every piece I sell with as many details as I possibly can, but the majority of these items are antique or vintage, so they will normally show some degree of wear from age and use. All items are very carefully packaged for shipping.
