Normal.dotm 0 0 1 241 1378 self 11 2 1692 12.0 0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false This is an extremely rare original novelty postcard issued circa 1941-1944. It was created for use by members of the Japanese Imperial Army serving as occupation forces in China, the Philippines, and Southeast Asia. It features the figure of a Japanese infantryman with four smiling little children representing the regions occupied by Japan. Beneath the army cap the head is left blank so the soldier could draw in their own face before sending. This is a powerful political propaganda piece by which the Japanese Army is portrayed as friends of the “little brothers” whose countries they had invaded. It plays on the Japanese imperialist propaganda claim that Japan was liberating their fellow Asians from the imperialist Europeans – a theme central to Japan’s Asian Co-prosperity Sphere scheme. The children pictured are (lower right) a Chinese, (upper right) a Malay, (lower left) a child from Borneo or Philippines, and (upper left) an Indo-Chinese (Vietnamese). Size & Condition: Postcard is 13.9 x 9.3cm. Card is in very fine condition, no folds, tears or pinholes; with very minor foxing on the front. Card is postally unused. Card will be well packed and shipped USPS, insured. Payment by PayPal or personal check is acceptable, with shipment within five (5) business days of PayPal payment or check clearance. Please see other Japanese WWII, and American WWI and WWII propaganda items that I currently have listed on eBay. POSTCARDS OF MERCHANTMEN AND WARSHIPS About 80 postcards are included in this group of Merchantmen and War Ships.. First there are 33 postcards with various merchant ships . The earliest shown appears to be of the German vessel "Barbasossa" dated July 12, 1903. There also are four real photo cards in the lot, and all cards in the lot are very good or better. A few photos shown are typical of the quality of this lot. One of the striking cards is of the White Star Line Olympic with a postmark reading "South Hampton / Paquebot 1929" which is a Universal machine cancel on a three halfpence Postal Union Congress , London 1929 stamp. Another card shows the "Columbus" mailed at Buenas Aries with an Argentina stamp postmarked March 1938. 48 Warships comprise the 2nd part of the lot. Here too I’ve shown a few typical cards. Note the outstanding Japanese card of the "Izumo" with a commemorative cancel. Not shown are many other fine ships, There is a good showing of ships with the early Cage Masts such as Rhode Island, New York, Nebraska, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Texas,, North Dakota and others. There are dry-docked ships, real photo cards, and so many others. This collection was accumulated over 25 years, and represents a great collection for those interested in ships. One could select 3 or 4 cards with a value equal to the opening bid of $ 20.00. This is truly a collection of value. Please only bids from the United States of America can be accepted.
