DESCRIPTION: This is a lot of over 650 (closer to 700) old "chrome" postcards of Texas from the estates of two life-long collectors. TYPE OF POST CARDS: This lot consists entirely of lithographed "chrome" postcards. Views include cities, towns, buildings, historic sites, schools, churches, industries, cows, etc. SIZE: Standard (approx. 3 ½" x 5 ½" ) AGE/ERA: Approximately 1950s -1970s (although some in this lot could certainly have been published/mailed later). The chrome era in postcards traditionally began in 1939 with Union Oil’s series of scenic view cards of the Western US. By the 1950s, chrome cards were the rule rather than the exception, a situation that continued until the late 1960s-mid 1970s when the larger-format "Continental" sized cards began to take over the market. Just as linen era cards were once considered "too new" by dealers and collectors, chromes have long been considered as unworthy by a lot of folks in the hobby. However, with the passage of time, chrome cards are increasingly attracting interest. Here on the West Coast, you can now routinely find them in dealer boxes for varying prices. DUPLICATION: There are two kinds of possible duplication in lots: 1) duplication of subject (e.g., the Alamo) and 2) duplication of a specific card (i.e., more than one copy of the same Alamo postcard). Both kinds of duplication will be found in this lot, although we try to ensure the second category is kept to a minimum. CONDITION: The vast majority of cards are in good to very good condition. Cards are postally used and unused. We try to screen out the "dogs" but sometimes in a lot of this size, a damaged card or two gets through. A note about the scans: Scans of chrome cards sometimes come out with odd colors or wavy color bars across the image, a sort of psychedelic effect. If this is the case when you view the scans below, please feel secure that the actual cards do NOT have these visual effects. PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT BEFORE BIDDING: U.S. Bidders: Winner agrees to pay the USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate ($10.70) S&H. In Canada, this rate is $26.95. Because of the weight of these lots, if you win more than one lot you will need to pay actual shipping costs for each lot. CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS PLEASE NOTE: You will need to add the 9.75% sales tax. CA RESALE CUSTOMERS: If the purchase is for resale you must send a signed California Resale Certificate (not just your resale number and not a copy of your seller’s permit) with the initial payment. We can email you a copy of the form if you need one. After the initial transaction (i.e., once we have the certificate on file), subsequent purchases will be handled accordingly when you advise us regarding resale at the time of the sale.
